Omiros Dairies

The company Omiros Dairies is an industry engaged in the production of dairy products, located in Trikala, Thessaly, and was founded in 1984 by the Yiannitsis family. As Omiros exports its products to more than 20 countries in Europe, America, and Australia, the need for a second production and office building was deemed imperative.

The new office building was specifically designed to accommodate the organizational and administrative needs of the new production line and to provide a welcoming environment for people from around the world. The design of the new offices spans two levels with a total area of 470 m2. The location of the site along the main road – the provincial road of Parapotamos-Kalonero – favored the design of a building that blends with the natural environment.

The building is constructed with a metal frame, and its covering is partially achieved using thermal-insulating glass with Low-E glass panes, leaving the blue framework visible. This design allows for optimal reflection of solar radiation while permitting natural light and airflow. The color of the covering is white, both to maximize solar reflection and to harmonize with existing buildings. Shade during the summer months and prevention of overheating are achieved through internal automatic roller blinds and external fixed aluminum blinds with a wood appearance.

Externally, the building is surrounded by specially designed terraces with aromatic plantings. Access to the building for the public is through the main entrance via stairs and a sloped ramp through the terraces, while employee entrances connect directly to either production or the factory courtyard.

The interior of the building was designed entirely based on the business needs and is organized into three functional units with a clear separation and well-organized traffic flow, enriched with modern elements in harmony with the overall arrangement and geometry. The ground floor includes the central reception, the reception area, and the central staircase leading to the upper floor. The ground floor also features WC facilities for staff, exclusive areas, and access to production.

On the first floor, apart from the managerial offices, other offices, and employee and public WC facilities, there is the central meeting space of the factory. A notable element of this space is the “hidden” grill station required for product sampling for customers, concealed behind sliding wooden panels. The production line, the “heart” of the factory, is visible in the meeting space through an intermediate glass partition.

In conclusion, the lighting of the building as a whole has been carefully studied to highlight the structure and create a pleasant and relaxing environment for employees and visitors. The overall design approach is characterized by a balance between the functional requirements of the dairy production industry, organizational efficiency, emphasis on materiality, and the contemporary style of a technologically advanced and pleasant workspace.
